GABRIELSKLOOF

150 years ago travelers on the wagon trail from Cape Town to the north found rest, food and wine at Gabriëlskloof, where farmer Gabriël le Roux lived and planted vines to make his own wine. The tradition of hospitality, good food and wine is once again the raison d’etre of Gabriëlskloof but this time in first world style, luxurious comfort and excellent quality, all wrapped in the warm, homely welcome of the rural Overberg.

An impressive, modern cellar with beautifully hewn stone walls and finishes has risen on the hills of the farm within view of the N2 and with it a restaurant, courtyard and tasting room – all complete with 360 degree views over the hills towards mountains and sea. A spectacular place to stop, breathe in the clean, clear air of the countryside and spend a few hours relaxing, wine tasting, olive oil tasting, enjoying a meal at the restaurant or making up a picnic from the spread offered in the deli. Vast lawns offer plenty of space for children to play while parents indulge in the homely atmosphere.

Quality underpins everything at Gabriëlskloof starting with the virus free vineyards. The estate’s variety of slopes and the diverse soils (Bokkeveld shale and sandstones) provide ready opportunities to express terroir in the wines. A limited range based on the terroir is produced - a Sauvignon Blanc – Semillon blend, Viognier, Shiraz and a Bordeaux blend.
