EERSTE HOOP
Adventurous wine lovers have another discovery to make, off-the-beaten track near Villiersdorp on the Van der Stel Pass, a new boutique cellar has risen on the farm Witklip. A surprise experience awaits the visitor to this small, unique and friendly cellar. The warm hospitality of the countryside is combined with cosmopolitan sophistication in the cellar. The team consists of winemaker and manager, Leon Engelke on the farm owned by a Belgian restaurateur. Philip Costandius, is consultant winemaker, Engelke (Michelangelo Garagiste of the Year 2007) enjoys nothing more than sitting over a glass of his first vintage Chardonnay and taking his time explain in the importance of quality through attention to detail.
THE WINES:
Premium quality, wooded Chardonnay and aViognier bottled under the Eerste Hoop label with red stable
mates being Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. An unwooded,
fruit driven Chardonnay and a Shiraz are bottled under the
Witklip label.
