Theewaterskloof
Known more as the fruit basket of the Cape, this fertile pocket is lush with orchards and vineyards that make it a splendid sight in any season.
The altitude of both areas as well as their proximity to the sea ensure a cool, slow ripening season for grapes, resulting in wines of excellent complexity and flavour. The rolling hills within the Elgin basin are home to a number of vineyards and cellars and provide a delightful meander into the countryside.
Breezes blowing over the wide expanse of the Theewaterskloof Dam bring further cool relief during the warm ripening months and the water provides a spectacular vista from many of the Theewaterskloof farms.
Home to the first wine and biodiversity eco route, visitors can combine wine tasting with tours into the fynbos, rare renosterveld and mountains with the reward of sightings of black eagles, African fish eagles and many antelope.
