Hermanus
The Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (translates to - Heaven and Earth Valley) is fast becoming the region’s “must do” wine destination thanks to the variety of excellent cellars and restaurants dotted along the road to Caledon within easy reach from the R43.
The valley not only offers the opportunity to taste some of the top Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the country but also some of the most spectacular settings and glorious views. Take a meander up the road and soak up the natural beauty of the tree-lined river, the towering peaks of Babylonstoring and the Raed na Gael mountains, the exquisite fynbos and the neat rows of vineyards. It is soul food.
And, of course, stop to taste the wines! The Valley may be known in the wine world for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay but there is no lack of innovation – many new cultivars and award winning blends are coming from this area, all backed by the fresh, young energy of a new generation of winemakers. From single varietals to complex blends, the wines are terroir driven and attention to quality is paramount.
Every great wine deserves a delicious meal to complement it and the valley offers a variety of options, from food pairings, food
and wine markets, to picnics, light luncheons and sophisticated cuisine. Plan on spending time here...
