Elgin
Elgin is the coolest wine growing area of the Cape, mainly as a result of the altitude of most of the growing areas. It is also a lush fruit basket producing deciduous fruit in a "bowl" surrounded by spectacular mountains. For the wine lover this means a rewarding offering of distinctive terroir wines and for the casual traveller it delivers breathtaking vistas, eco-experiences and farmstalls bursting with fresh produce. The Theewaterskloof Dam adds another dimension both to the climate and the views. This massive expanse of water cools the surrounding vineyards and fruit trees and provides a spectacular backdrop to many of the vineyards.
Home to some of the newest cellars, this region is a delight to visit and will reward the patient nature lover with bonus sightings of Black Eagles, African Fish Eagles and many antelope.
